River (resonance)

2022

Installation: Derwent water (Lake St Clair, New Norfolk Estuary, Storm Bay), glass vessels, steel, sound components. Sound: 10 min. loop.

An early exploration into water bodies and embodied memory.

We are watery bodies in constant motion. I move with the river in order to know this place from the inside-out.

This work scores an ongoing collaboration with timumili minanya / Derwent River, translating moments of hydropoetics, whispers and gestures of composing- and performing-with. We began with a deep (time) lake carved by glaciers, met again at the salt-freshwater ecotone, and parted ways by oceanic dispersion.

The water, here, remembers; (hi)stories embodied and embedded. Go to the river and listen.

Exhibited as part of Taking Up Space: Emerging Women in Sculpture, curated by Angela Anderson.
